The First 90 Days After A Stroke: What Really Matters

The first three months after a stroke are the period of fastest neurological recovery. This is when the brain is most responsive to repetitive, task-specific training, and when the right rehabilitation plan can meaningfully change long-term outcomes.

Consistency matters more than intensity of any single session. Patients who train four to six times a week, with a supported home program in between, regain walking and hand function faster than those who attend occasionally.

Goals should be functional, not abstract. Instead of aiming for 'stronger arm', we work towards holding a glass, buttoning a shirt or walking to the gate without support. Each of these targets guides the exercise selection.

Family involvement is the third factor. Trained caregivers prevent falls, avoid shoulder injuries during transfers and keep the home program on track.
