Why Exercise Is Medicine In Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease gradually reduces the size and speed of movement. Training deliberately large, exaggerated movements helps recalibrate the internal sense of how much effort a normal step or reach requires.
Rhythmic cueing with sound or visual markers helps patients overcome freezing of gait, one of the most common causes of falls.
Balance and strength work should continue lifelong. Progress plateaus quickly when exercise stops, so we build programs patients can sustain at home between review sessions.
Exercise also supports mood, sleep and confidence, which strongly influence how active a patient stays overall.
